Back in 2023, I wrote about how "View Source" always makes a new request. It was one of those gotchas that bit me about once a year.
Recently, I was planning to turn that tip into a video to help spread the warning. But when I sat down to record it, I couldn't reproduce the behavior. View Source was showing me the cached page, not making a fresh request.
At first, I thought I was doing something wrong. Then I tried Safari. Same thing. Then Firefox. Also fixed.
I couldn't find a specific release note calling out this change, but it appears all major browsers have quietly fixed this behavior. View Source now shows you the page you're actually looking at, not a fresh GET request that blows away your POST data.
This was such an unexpected behavior, and it would catch me off guard every time. I'm happy to report it's no longer a problem.
Sometimes the best updates are the ones you don't even notice and just quietly make your life better.
Here to help,
Joel
