By default, Claude Code adds a Co-Authored-By trailer to the commits it creates, and an attribution line to pull request descriptions.
Personally, I still review all the code I submit and take full responsibility for it, so I don't want my commits attributed to Claude.
I've seen a lot of developers try to turn this off with an instruction in their CLAUDE.md file.
A few hours later, deeper into a session, Claude adds the trailer anyway.
So the dev rewrites the instruction in all caps, maybe with a few exclamation points.
The problem is that CLAUDE.md is guidance for the model, and the model is non-deterministic.
It might follow your instruction most of the time, but it's still just an instruction the model can miss.
Instead of asking the model to remove the attribution, you can stop Claude Code from adding it in the first place.
Claude Code has an attribution setting for exactly this.
Add it to ~/.claude/settings.json to apply it to every project on your machine:
{
"attribution": {
"commit": "",
"pr": ""
}
}
You can use these settings to change the wording of the attribution, but an empty string just hides it completely.
All of these options are in the settings reference. As with so many tools, Laravel included, this is a good reminder that it's worth reading through the docs every so often.
